It turns out that the corn we consume is not the same as the kernels that form popcorn. There is just one maize variety that will produce Zea mays everta. When you combine this with its abundance, you get a cheap and abundant wholefood. Popping corn is undeniably popular as a blank canvas on which to develop your own styles and recipes; it's healthful and will take on any flavour in its raw, unadulterated state; the rest is up to you. A decent sprinkle of cinnamon, agave syrup or date syrup, and some coconut oil, in my opinion, is the finest combo of healthy and tasty!
